Family + Kauai = Great Times!

#showsinhawaii2017

On Friday, July 11 we took off from the Cedar Rapids airport with the Kahlers on a 6 am flight to Chicago.  We meet Brent and family in Chicago as they left from Indianapolis.  We all boarded a 9+ hour flight to Honolulu and then a short flight to Lihue, Kauai.  We all weathered the long flight well.  With two rented SUVs we headed to Princeville to check in at the Hanalei Beach Resort.  One van stopped in Lihue at Costco first as groceries are better priced there than at the Foodland in Princeville.

We made it to Kauai!!
Search and Find kept them busy

11 people = lots of luggage

Waiting at the Lihue airport for the men and the cars.

Saturday
We all woke up early as Kauai is five hours behind Iowa time and six hours behind eastern time.  We were greeted by a beautiful double rainbow from our view of the two two-bedroom condos overlooking the Hanalei Bay.  Tunnels Beach was our first day beach.  Landon and Scott saw turtles when they were out snorkeling.  The boys had fun digging in the sand and splashing in the water.

The small pool out our back door!

Tunnels Beach fun

Five boys at the beach!

Of course, we needed to stop at the Wishing Well, our favorite place for shaved ice.

After the beach it's always pool time to play and wash off the sand.  The big pool at Hanalei Bay Resort is a great place to play.

Steaks on the grill!  Thanks Kahlers!

Games before bedtime.
Sunday
A beach with waves to use the boogie boards!  What fun!  We started out for Annini Beach but soon switched to find a beach down the road with waves.

Pool time and supper of shrimp tacos.  Thanks to Brent and April.

Monday
We were up for a hike to a beach today so we headed to Sea Lodge Beach.  We love this very secluded beach, but it is quite a hike down and through the rain forest (over a small brook) and then over lava rocks.

There's the beach - Sea Lodge Beach

Time to eat!

Cam was loving the fruit punch.

Tuesday
The view from our one bedroom condo.  Note the waterfalls

Every morning we make lunches for the beach.

Cade - 9

Landon - 11

Kasen - 7
Cam - almost 4

Owen - 8

Games on the beach - football, tennis, paddle ball, soccer

We had professional family pictures done and then headed to our favorite bakery for pizza.

Wednesday
An ATV adventure was on the agenda for today.  Don stayed with Cam back at the resort as he wasn't old enough to go.  Scott and Brent were drivers!  We had fun buzzing around the Princeville Ranch, hiking to a waterfall to go swimming, and racing back.
