Next Stop - Italy!

Off to Italy. Wednesday, June 29, 2011

The flight pattern to Italy started from Cedar Rapids to Detroit to Amsterdam to Bologna, Italy. All flights were on time and traveling went well especially when we found out we were booked in the economy plus section for the overseas flights. The extra legroom was nice.

Gastone picked us up at the Bologna airport and 2 ½ hours later we arrived in Peraso where the International Coaching Clinic is held. Don will present three different 1 ½ hour clinics while we are here. I, on the other hand, plan to relax and try to get my time schedule straightened up. What ever happened to the 7 hours that we lost is certainly hard for me to get back.

Cancun, Mexico - USA U16

Don was given the opportunity again to coach the USA U16 National Team. Training camp was held in Colorado Springs, CO at the Olympic Training Center from June 8 - 17. June 18 we took off for Cancun, Mexico the host of the Americas Tournament. Five games later the USA U16 Team was GOLD! Retirement!

June 1, 2011 was our last day of employment with the Mid-Prairie Community School District located in Wellman, Iowa.  Vicky was a long time kindergarten teacher and loved her work with five and six year olds.  Don was an elementary physical education teacher, the district's activities director, and the last year added as the district's transportation director. (Yea - what a schedule!!)  Basketball will stay a part of our lives.  After much thought and prayer we both decided to take advantage of the district's "early separation" policy and as of June 2 we are officially RETIRED!

Many people ask us "So how does it feel to be retired?" and "What are you going to do?" It feels GREAT to be retired.  So far it feels like the usual summer vacation from school time, but......no kindergarten room to get prepped, no curriculum to develop, no softball/baseball rain outs to take care of, no transportation issues to deal with.................. (indicating on and on and on!)  As to what are we planning to do.  Well we LOVE to travel and will continue to do that and much more whenever we want to.  We will have more time with our parents, children and four adorable grandsons!
