Winter Park - Spring Break with Kahlers

After the BIG weekend in Iowa (Vicky's birthday and Don's induction into the Iowa Basketball Hall of Fame) we drove to Omaha along with the Kahlers, flew to Denver, and checked in at the condo at Winter Park.  The Kahlers are spending their spring break in Colorado and we joined them for a day of fun.

Getting their NCAA brackets done.

Monday - tubing!

The BIG hill - almost impossible to get up to the top.

Don crawling up!

A sleigh ride complete with hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows.

Back to the condo for games, swimming, grilling supper, and sleep before we head back to Colorado Springs.  The Kahlers spent Tuesday skiing and Wednesday at Glenwood Hot Springs before heading to Denver for the rest of the week.

Basketball Hall of Fame for Don!

BIG?  Yes.  Don was inducted at the state tournament into the Iowa Basketball Hall of Fame and Vicky turns 65 on the same day.  Plus both of our kids and their families came to Des Moines to help us celebrate.

Don and I flew into Omaha on Thursday afternoon after spending the night in Denver because we attended the Denver Nuggets game.  Flying into Omaha was much cheaper than into Des Moines.  We enjoyed our Friday attending a few of the state tournament games and eating out at 801 Chop House to celebrate my birthday.

Friday evening Melissa, Scott, Landon and Owen came from Cedar Rapids and Brent with April, Cade, Kasen and Cam arrived late from Brownsburg, IN.  We all enjoyed our suites at the Residence Inn.

So many bb games on tv

Saturday morning swimming

And basketball.  Landon shoveled the snow!

Spaghetti Works for lunch at the hotel.
Saturday afternoon we attended a reception for the Hall of Fame inductees at the Hall of Pride.  They introduced the six coaches and eight players that were going into the Hall of Fame.  Then we were escorted to the arena where they were introduced at the half time of the 3A championship game.

Cookies at the reception!

Back to the hotel for pizza and birthday cake!

What a special birthday surrounded by my five loves!

What a busy day!  Kasen was asleep in seconds.

KC, NC, and NYC

Can we get in three locations within one week?  Of course.

Kansas City
Don's bucket list has always included attending a game at Kansas.  This was the perfect year to do that as our USAB player Josh Jackson is a freshman there. So on Friday evening, February 23 we flew out of Denver to Kansas City.   We had a great time with LJ and Jana Goolsby - eating out Saturday evening and going to the Kansas bb game on Monday with them.  Sunday we went to nephew Matt's house for lunch of KC BBQ.  Nephew Josh and family came over too.  Don was invited to attend Kansas' shoot around on Monday afternoon and then the game from the third row center court in the evening.  What a great place for a game.

Raleigh, NC
Tuesday, February 28 we take an early flight to Raleigh, North Carolina to see a Duke game.  What fun to sit right behind the Duke bench and watch USAB players Jayson Tatum and Harry Giles play.

New York City
A very early flight Wednesday morning take us to New York City where Don was due to hold a USAB coaching academy. Wednesday evening we enjoyed an Italian restaurant and Miss Saigon!  Thursday before leaving NYC we took a two hour bus tour of the city and ended with a traditional deli meal.

At the theater to see Miss Saigon.

Thursday, March 2 we head back to CO on an afternoon flight.  Whew!
