With a 5 AM start my mom & dad picked us up and we are off to Sanborton, New Hampshire. We put in about 13 hours of driving today!
Day 2: Niagara Falls
It was a rainy day, but Niagara Falls was on our activity list. I have never been to Niagara Falls and Don was a child so we planned to spend the majority of the day exploring.
Maid of the Mist boat ride by the American Falls, Bridal Falls, and Horseshoe Falls.
Then Don and I did the Cave of the Winds. We took an elevator down, then walked down and around many, many steps to the bottom of the American/Bridal Falls.
Niagara Falls is one of the seven wonders of the world!
Day 3: Verona, NY to Steele Hill Resort, Sanborton, New Hampshire
About six hours of rainy day driving took us to our destination stay in New Hampshire. The drive through the very southern part of Vermont was interesting and beautiful. We drove through the foothills of the Green Mountains and often drove next to a stream. Our lunch stop as we crossed into Vermont was at Bennington. The Battle of Bennington happened here in August, 1777 so it's a very historic area.
OLD FIRST CHURCH: This church was organized in 1762 and built in 1805 is among the oldest in Vermont.

The rain today kept us in the car where we arrived about 4:00 to check in.
Day 4: Still Raining!
It is still raining and since we are on the top of Steele Hill Mountain, we are in the clouds. We wonder what we should be seeing from our top floor balcony - maybe the lake and off through the mountains?? We ate brunch at the resort then headed down the mountain to get groceries. It is great weather to stay in today and watch football on tv. Don is happy about that.

Spent the evening at the pool and hot tub.
We finished up the evening with games of Sequence.
Day 5: The White Mountains Trail
We spent the day driving and hiking the 100 mile round trip in The White Mountains.
The Flume Gorge: an area with a natural 800-foot chasm with waterfalls, covered bridges, glacial boulders and The Wolf's Den Cave. We walked the 2 mile hike to take in all the sights.
The glacial period over 25,000 years ago left boulders behind.
The Flume Covered Bridge is one of the oldest in the state. It was built in 1886 across the Pemigewasset River.
Table Rock - Over time, the rushing waters of the Flume Brook has exposed this large outcropping of rock.
The Flume Gorge - a natural gorge at the base of Mt. Liberty. The walls of granite rise perpendicularly to a height of 70-90 feet and vary in width from 12-20 feet.
Avalanche Falls - at the top of the Flume is a close view of the 45-foot waterfalls as the Flume Brook enters the gorge.

The last 34.5 miles of our drive is called the Kancamagus Highway traversing the White Mountain National Forest crossing Mt. Kancamagus and climbing to nearly 3000 feet.

Day 6

We decided to have a drive around the lakes. We needed to get out. We were rewarded with a rainbow.
Day 7 - A Trip to the Coast
Off to Maine to see Nubble Light House
Then to Portsmouth, NH
Time for lunch - LOBSTER!

Day 8 - Cog Railway Trip up Mt Washington
Off to Sabbaday Falls
