Saturday we drove to Mt. Princeton Resort and purchased a spa day pass to use the hot springs. It was a relaxing day enjoying the hot tubs and very warm pools. We even tried the big water slide!
Sunday we hiked along the Arkansas River before checking out. The Surf Chateau was right on the edge of the river.

On our drive home Sunday we happened across the Elevenmile Canyon Scenic & Historic Auto Tour. Originally called "Granite Canyon" the towering walls are composed of Pikes Peak granite. Construction of the Colorado Midland Railway was started in 1886 and spanned 261 miles between Colorado Springs and New Castle. It was finished in 1887 and ended service in 1918. We drove on the road that was once the railway and went through tunnels from that time. We drove the eleven miles on a washboard, dusty road. It ended at the Lake George reservoir and turned around at the dead end. We found a lovely place to picnic before leaving the canyon.
