Labor Day Weekend with L and O
Melissa and Scott had signed up for a 1/2 marathon in Portland, Oregon and meet up with her college roomate. Due to Covid they met them in Grand Junction, CO over Labor Day Weekend and did a virtual 1/2 and enjoyed the time together there. So....we got to care for Landon and Owen.
Saturday Landon had a cross country meet in Bettendorf and as always, we enjoyed watching him. Monday we rented a boat, packed a picnic and enjoyed the sunny day at the Reservior.

Bring on the Fall Sports!
Hooray! Fall sports begins. Landon ran varsity cross country as a 9th grader this morning at Prairie. He finished 8th on his team so may keep his varsity status. He had a PR and felt good about his run. Owen had two soccer matches this afternoon and won both 3-1 and 8-0. Owen scored 7 of today's goals for his team. Landon played soccer this afternoon and his team did not fair so well. Oh well. The weather was perfect (80 instead of the 90s we've been having) and it felt so good to cheer them on.
LANDON GOT TO BE AN ALTERNATE FOR STATE! WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE AS A FRESHMAN!

Derecho! Kahlers Come to Stay
Monday, August 10 a derecho hit our area of the state of Iowa. What is a derecho? According to Webster's Dictionary it's "a large fast-moving complex of thunderstorms with powerful straight-line winds that cause widespread destruction."

Escape to Colorado
Month after month we've been in Iowa during the COVID-19 social distancing situation. It's time to head out for new scenes. We still aren't comfortable flying so we drove the 11 + hours to our home in Colorado Springs. Don's office is still closed but a change of scenery felt good for ten days.
One of our first evenings there, we packed a picnic supper and headed to Garden of the Gods for a hike.
We also enjoyed many walks around our downtown neighborhood trails.
Friday evening hike and picnic at Helen Hunt falls
A new destination awaited us on Saturday. We drove about 1 1/2 hours to see Bishop Castle. It's an unusual self-built "castle". It was interesting but hardly worth the drive. The day was saved by coming across the Isabel Recreation area where we had our picnic and hike around the lake.
